100 Wardour St Presents: Wayne Hernandez

Wednesdays at 100 Wardour St are all about Motown. This week, we welcome Wayne Hernandez.

Wayne began singing in churches at the age of 9. Added to that, Wayne always had leadership skills that lead him to start his own 10 piece soul band. Performing in various competitions, Wayne won the Best Vocal Award for The Prince Charles Trust. He went on to sign a recording deal with Epic Records where he released 3 singles and an Album called Telepathic written and produced by Barry Blue and Rod Temperton.

Traveling to the USA, Wayne worked with Brian Mcknight, Diana Ross, Roberta Flack and was a guest vocal on Grover Washington’s Album. Soulful Strut. He also completed and American / Asian Tour with Kool and The Gang.

On his return to the UK, Wayne performed on soundtracks for the film ‘Oh Happy Day’ and continued working with artists such as Jay Z, Ed Sheeran, Tina Turner, Tori Amos, Madonna, Yusuf Islam, Quincy Jones and Kingdom Choir for Nelson Mandela’s Birthday, The London Community Choir and Billy Ocean to name a few. One of his highlights was when he performed with his choir for The Haiti Earthquake Charity Show with Jay Z, Rhianna and Bono from U2.

Currently, Wayne is now performing his own shows at places like The Jazz Cafe, The 606 Club, Hideaway Club, and The Boisdale. He has for over 12 years and still is, working with Damon Albarn for his solo projects, Gorillaz and Blur. Wayne has  put together a Marvin Gaye cover band which performs around the UK at present.
